Lyfetime is an emerging independent singer, songwriter and rapper who made his professional solo recording debut in 2020 with the singles “Save Me” and “Illuminate”. Those tracks introduced a multi-talented Haitan-American artist based in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Although he has been making music privately for more than a decade, he only recently began sharing his songs with the world.
Inspired by groundbreaking modern hip-hop artists like Kendrick Lamar, Xxxtentaction and J. Cole, Lyfetime creates soulful genre-fluid hip-hop. He has remained quite since his debut. However, he’s back with new music in 2022.
“Thoughts From The Dark ” is the brand new EP from Lyfetime, released worldwide via all major streaming services on November 1. As the title suggests, the five song collection finds the singer in a melancholy and introspective mood. Mixing elements of r&b, emo-trap and hip-hop he has created a deeply personal yet universally relatable record.
The EP opens with the psychedelic vocal samples, minimalist beat and confessional rap of “Phazed”. The song sets the mood for what’s to come with a subdued mood and trippy melodic vibe. “Dilemma” follows, adding an infectious guitar loop and chill trap beat to the recipe. Throughout the record the rapper digs deep into matters of the heart and his own personal well being.
“Love of Mine (mistress Babylon)” is a real highpoint, matchy a bluesy guitar riff with a memorable vocal hook and emotionally layered lyrics. On “Enough” Lyfetime welcomes featured artist VISHES and adds a deep house groove to the mix. The EP closes with the dreamy lo-fi experimentation of “eternity”.
