The Kev is the professional name of multi-talented independent singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer, Kevin McGeary. After more than 20 years of making music, he made his solo professional recording debut in 2019. Since then, the prolific creator has produced a voluminous catalog featuring his unique brand of socio-political commentary and satirical comedy.
Originally from Northern Ireland, McGeary is now based in Manchester, United Kingdom. In addition to his musical endeavors as The Kev, he is also an accomplished educator and writer. He spent time in China, speaks the language fluently and now teaches it to private and corporate clients.
Kevin often incorporates his work into his music and has written a number of songs in Chinese as well as English. He first caught the live performance bug while living in China. Karaoke is very popular there, so singing was an easy way to connect. In recent years he has been heavily involved in Manchester’s live music and spoken word scene.
Recent releases from The Kev include 2021’s English-language LP Abusive X, and his ten-track collection of Chinese songs released in 2020. However, the best way to experience The Kev is through his YouTube Channel and Bandcamp page, each of which hosts a plethora of original music, commentary and witty offbeat comedy.
