Meatboy is an emerging band with a darky and mysterious sound that harkens back to the great guitar-driven psychedelia of the 1960s. The three-piece from Leeds, United Kingdom first got together in 2019. That’s when Joe Rothwell, Jack Melling and Will Schultz burst onto their music scene with a series of singles and live gigs. In 2020 they dropped a 3-song EP that gained them considerable local attention.
The band made their international professional recording debut in 2021. They have dropped two singles to date. Each track is its own exploration into the ethereal world of feedback guitar and purple haze perceptions. They have connected with new rock and psych fans from around the world with a sound built on big swampy guitar riffs and thunderous downtempo beats.
“Rain Upon the Moon” is the debut single from Meatboy, available worldwide via all major streaming services. A slow-phased guitar comes through in waves to introduce the mostly instrumental head-trip. Bass and drums enter the mix and lay down a hypnotic organic beat reminiscent of an early-era Pink Floyd. In the distance, a disembodied vocal haunts the periphery.
