“Fly Like an Eagle” is the latest single from EC3, available worldwide via all major streaming services. A cover of Steve Miller’s 1976 classic, EC3 and crew transform the iconic psychedelic tune into a funked-up, metal-infused jam. Lead singer Rayshun Lamarr (The Voice, season 14) is excellent, meeting guitarist Jimmy Konsta’s shredding with a killer rock & roll howl, and then matching the soulful tones of backing vocalists Wendy B.,vMycah Chevalier, Troy(Sol) Edler.
In the driver seat is EC3 with a solid backbeat and plenty of syncopated interplay with bassist Adrian (Egg) Norton, pianist Tyrone Jackson and percussionist Dominique Noel. On the one, they drop a high-energy, metal-infused funk-groove. By the last verse the track has kicked into an extended Prince-style rock/funk jam. They even throw in a little vocal shoutout to the Wild Cherry funk classic, “Play That Funky Music.” It’s a lot of fun.
