We first heard from Basement Prophet in November upon the release of his single “Blue Eyes“. That track introduced The Static Dive readers to singer, songwriter, rapper and multi-instrumentalist producer Sven Herrmann. He is an emerging independent alternative hip-hop artist from Bavaria with a genre-fluid sound.
Basement Prophet made his debut in 2019. Since then the prolific rapper has produced three albums and twenty singles in just three years. He has found fans in Germany and around the world. Many of his singles count their streaming stats in the hundreds of thousands.
“Catch My Vibe (Radio Edit)” is the latest single from Basement Prophet, released worldwide via all major streaming services on January 1, 2023. The rapper is joined by his sister, emerging independent artist Nanouk. This is the fourth single that the 18-year old singer, rapper and violinist has released with her brother.
The tune opens on an ambient synthwave vibe. Psychedelic effects and glitchy percussion set the scene. Soon, afropop and latin elements converge as the beat lands on a funky guitar riff and a driving reggaeton groove. Rhyming in German and singing in English, the two vocalists trade verses on for an infectious low-key club jam.
