AMFG’s Melancholy New Daytona Blues

amfg

AMFG is the professional name of singer, songwriter and producer Alex (mother f*cking) Gordon. The Daytona Beach, Florida native made his professional solo recording debut in 2021 with the EP Black Canvas. That record introduced an eclectic and experimental young artist with a sound built on equal parts hip-hop, indie rock and r&b.

Since his debut, the prolific musician has produced a remarkable volume of work. In less than two years he has released ten singles and three EPs. When not in the studio, AMFG is on stage, playing shows all over central Florida.

“Daytona Blues” is a recent single and video from AMFG, available worldwide via all major streaming services and YouTube. The track opens on a live bass guitar playing a lonely riff. Soon a lo-fi downtempo hip-hop beat drops.

On the mic, Alex delivers a melodic stream-of-consciousness soliloquy of a young man trying to keep his head straight and his music on track, while surrounded by distractions, drug abuse and a lack of support. It’s a smart, sad, and ultimately inspirational tune with a cool genre-fluid vibe. In the chorus AMFG drops a couple of nice shoutouts to both The Beatles and The Stones.
