DOM is the professional name of emerging independent rapper, Domenic Scalzo. The Peachtree Corners, Georgia native made his solo professional recording debut in 2021 with the single “Close the Door”. That track introduced a talented young emcee and producer who keeps one eye on the old-school while forging a new sound.
A talented lyricist with a poetic flair, DOM cites groundbreaking hip-hop artists like Eminem, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Proof, Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne, Logic, Russ, and Mac Miller as major influences on his sound. Like many on that list, he makes cerebral, verbose and lyrical hip-hop that takes cues from the great lyrical philosophers of hip-hop’s Golden Age.
“The Art of an Empty Bottle” is the brand new single from DOM, released worldwide via all major streaming services on January 20, 2023. The track opens on a chilled stoner intro before the beat drops on a mid-tempo lo-fi boom-bap groove. A hypnotic sample sets a psychedelic scene as DOM steps to the mic and delivers an autobiographical and confessional rap. He rhymes about past drug abuse, violence and mental health issues, and shares the lessons he’s learned along the way.
