HomonQ is the professional name of multi-instrumentalist composer, producer and photographer Jonathan Leroy. Originally from New York, the multifaceted creator lived all over the United States before eventually settling in Hawai’i. The name HomonQ references the old alchemy theory of the homunculi. In addition to his solo creative work, Jonathan is also the visual director of Colloid Media.
Although he’s been making music for more than a decade, HomonQ just recently made his solo professional recording debut. Working with musicians around the world, the composer creates dreamy, jazz-infused, genre-fluid jams. He cites a wide range of artists as inspiration for his sound, from the legendary producer/rapper MF Doom to jazz visionary Herbie Hancock.
“Pomelo” is the debut single from HomonQ, released worldwide via all major streaming services on January 25, 2023. The track rolls on a jazzy, live drum and electric piano vibe. Flautist Jamichael Frazier joins Leory as alternates between saxophone and piano for some tasty, laid-back and bluesy solos. Vocalists Cande Genaro and Kleidbp dreamily scat and croon between the notes through this groovy meditation.
