Cozine Debuts New Indie Americana

cozine

Cozine is the new musical project from lifelong friends and songwriting partners Joe Boisits & Evan Martin, and vocalist Tom Frank. The band just dropped their debut single. However, the seeds for the project were planted 15 years ago when Long Island, New York natives Boisits and Martin were still junior high school students, writing and recording songs in Evan’s basement.

Throughout much of the 2010’s the duo played together in a series of original bands. They performed all around the NYC metro area, including the East Village’s famed Webster Hall. The last band broke up in 2016, but Joe and Evan kept writing. In 2020 they met Tom, and Cozine was born.

“Mistaken” is the debut single from Cozine, released worldwide via all major streaming services on December 16, 2022. A solo electric guitar opens the track, picking a melancholy minor-key chord progression. Soon the beat drops on a laid-back, downtempo groove.

Recalling some of Wilco’s early work, the band lays down a sound that lands somewhere between indie-rock, 90’s college rock and modern Americana. Guitars, keys, bass and drums set the scene for Tom’s soulful tale of misunderstanding, miscommunication and regret. As the song progresses the mix evolves into a trippy bit of organic psychedelia.
