Jamie Backlight is an emerging singer, songwriter and guitarist who made his solo professional debut in 2021 with the five-song EP How to Live Forever? That record introduced a multifaceted musician and multi-instrumentalist with a modern rock sound inspired by the giants of alternative, metal and classic rock. The Belgian creator writes, records and produces his music himself. However he often recruits guest musicians and vocalists, when the song calls for it.
Since his debut, Jamie Backlight has released three follow-up singles. The bilingual rocker has connected with fans around the world with releases in both English and French (“Ode á la vie” and “Liberté”). Citing legendary bands like Muse, Metallica and Queen as his primary influence, he has a modern sound built on elements of guitar-driven rock from across the decades.
“The Worst Guy [To Love]” is the most recent English-language single from Jamie Backlight, available worldwide via all major streaming services. Grungy power chords ride a rumbling bass guitar and low-key funk breakbeat as Jamie steps to the mic with a dark-pop meditation about a toxic relationship.
Backlight plays the title role as a female vocalist plays counterpoint in the chorus, repeating the mantra, “You fucked up with my heart, you fucked up with my love.” As the track progresses, vocal harmonies, syncopated sub- rhythms and a wall of guitars build the mix into a lush prog-rock production. The two act out the tense dynamic in the song’s dramatic video.
