Jon McGolrick is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who lives and works in the Southern indie music mecca of Austin, Texas. Originally from Santa Cruz, California, Jon made his professional solo recording debut in 2022 with the single “Seasons”. That record introduced a uniquely talented musician and writer with a dreamy, genre-bending sound.
Performing solo, accompanied only by his own acoustic guitar, Jon McGolrick pairs poetic lyrical observations with a musically sophisticated finger picking style. He cites groundbreaking late alt/folk/rock singer Elliott Smith as a major influence on his sound. And like his hero, Jon creates beautiful music that defies restrictive classification.
“Sound of Autumn” is the brand new single from Jon McGolrick, released worldwide via all major streaming services on February 12, 2023. Jon opens the track on guitar, thumbing a percussive rhythm. He meters out a mellow and melodic groove that recalls the style of new age virtuoso, Michael Hedges. On the mic the singer offers visual scenes of the changing seasons. Images of lonely street lights bleed into romantic fantasies as the guitarist riffs on an open-tuned Leo Kottke-style folk/jazz meditation.
