Pipe Gods are an emerging hip-hop duo making their debut in 2023. The otherwise anonymous rappers are from Jackson, Mississippi. They’re launching the project with a concept as old as hip-hop itself, a diss track.
The concept is simple, two artists have a beef with each other and they make it public in song. LL Cool J’s classic “Mama Said Knock You Out” is an example of a popular example diss track. The song came as the culmination of a years-long rivalry with fellow NYC emcee, Kool Moe Dee.
“Nasty Newt” is the debut single from Pipe Gods, released worldwide via all major streaming services on February 11, 2023. As the track opens, a solo piano plays a funk bassline. Soon the beat drops on a lo-fi trap groove. The rappers step to the mic and take turns taking down the title character.
