GEM is an Australian producer, recording artist and DJ who exploded onto the international pop/dance scene in 2017 with her cover of the Hall & Oates classic “Rich Girl”. A string of hits and a few millions streams followed. Regular readers of The Static Dive will remember last year’s dark-pop single “Ruins” from her EP Healing Feelings.
The industry has taken notice of the Los Angeles-based producer as well. Shoebox Magazine named her the #2 female producer in the world, and Rolling Stone featured her as an Artist You Should Know. Last year she took home the Best New Age award at Hollywood Music Media Awards. GEM is poised to make her biggest splash yet with her latest release, a smooth new take on an early 2000s pop classic.
“I Kissed a Girl” is the brand new single from GEM, released worldwide via all major streaming services on February 22, 2023. On the track, the producer reimagines Katy Perry’s gender-bending pop/rock smash as a sexy downtempo funk jam. Airy electric piano, synth and guitar chords float on the horizon as a laid back disco beat lays down a chill organic groove. On the mic, GEM delivers a sultry dream-pop performance.
