Lenax is an independent multi-instrumentalist songwriter and producer based in Nashville, Tennessee. The veteran musician launched his eponymous new collaborative black metal project in February with a pair of singles. The tracks introduced an international roster of musicians, drawn together by their collective love of double coil, double kick drum, guttural-vocal black metal mayhem.
Working with collaborators from as far away as Spain, Greece, and Ukraine, Lenax is currently crafting a full length album due in December 2023. Infection will be a concept album about man’s primal urge for personal freedom. The story is told through a series of metaphoric disasters both man-made and cosmic.
“Of Greater Forces” is the brand new single from Lenax, released worldwide via all major streaming services on February 19, 2023. As a harbinger of things to come, “Of Greater Forces” promises Infection to be an epic experience. From the first beat the band launches into a breakneck assault with atomic-clock precision and heavy metal thunder. Between the rapid-fire riffing, shredding and wonderfully bone-chilling vocals, the band drops some very cool jazzy syncopated breaks and even a little psychedelic guitar.

8 Questions with Lenax
Where are you from?
I’m currently just south of Nashville, though originally from Rhode Island. I am a New Englander at heart!
How long have you been making music?
On and off my whole life. I made my first (admittedly bad) recording at age 14! Overall it’s been a journey of well over 20 years, but during that time I’ve ventured into different genres of music, different roles altogether such as live sound and promotion, as well as taking entire spans of years completely off.
Life is funny like that. However even if I wasn’t performing and writing, music has always been an integral part of my life. I don’t think I’ve gone a day in my life without listening to music.
Who are the musicians involved in your project?
I am the primary songwriter and sole full time member. I have two steady session musicians on bass and drums, and a rotating cast of very talented friends as needed elsewhere.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Metallica have been vigilant and lifelong influences for me. Within black metal, the list just grows beyond the point of making practical mentions at this point! It is a deep and diverse genre.
What is your greatest non-musical influence?
I would credit weightlifting coach Jim Wendler. He created one of the most practical and flexible weight training programs I’ve ever come across, and he is also a no nonsense kind of guy. His approach to lifting can apply to anything in life, and that is one of “discipline over motivation”. You don’t get anywhere by being motivated, you have to do something, and do it consistently.
What inspired you to create this project?
I had been on the edge of creating another metal project for years. The thing that pushed me over the edge was one part realizing I was doing more wishing than doing! I also put a lot of credit into seeing some up and coming bands at a local festival and remembering what it was like to play live.
What are your plans for the future (musically)?
This year I am finishing a full length album, with plans on doing an album release show at the end of the year. That may include either putting together a one off show with friends or assembling a live band, that is yet to be decided. I also have enough demo tracks for a whole second album, but a lot of that is under developed so I’m taking things one step at a time.
Is there anything else you would like to say?
I need to say thank you to the promoters I’ve worked with, the artists who have lent their talent to the project, and the fans who have been excited to hear more. I am beside myself with how many people have heard my music so far in such a short amount of time, and each of those groups of people are an integral part of the Lenax family. Feel free to drop me a note and say hi!
