Navum is an emerging independent rock & roll three-piece from Hudson, North Carolina. The power trio of Devin (Guitar), Jonathan (Drums), and Joseph (Bass/Vocals) first got together in 2017. Back then they called themselves The Voyagers.
The group released a self-produced 12-song album as The Voyagers. However, they pulled it from stores after the name change. The newly rebranded Navum then went back to the studio for their professional recording debut.
“After Hours” is the debut EP from Navum, released worldwide via all major streaming services on January 23, 2023. The record features six newly recorded selected tracks from the earlier Voyagers LP. From the emo punk heartbreak of “Sweet Nothings” to the hardcore meets prog-rock closer “Tomorrow”, the genre-fluid band bangs out guitar-fueled rock & roll inspired by decades of punk, metal, alternative, grunge and pop.
The band works in a lot of nuance within their guitar/bass/drums format. “Falling” is a dark and introspective track with a great swampy grunge groove, circa Seattle 1991. “Aftermath” opens as a melancholy guitar/vocal soliloquy before the band joins in with a classic college rock groove.
The band continues that 80’s vibe with a wall of power chords and a loose punk feel on the uptempo rocker “Medicine”. “Alive” is a real highpoint on the EP. On the track, the band spins its many diverse influences into an infectiously catchy rocker with an uplifting message.
