Clockbutterflies is a unique collaborative musical project led by the mononymous and otherwise anonymous artist, Monarch. The group made their professional recording debut in 2021 with the single “7 Years of Winter”. That track introduced a concept band, created to provide hope to those who have seen their share of pain.
Originally inspired by a short story the Monarch wrote as a child, the Clockbutterflies mission is to shine a guiding light for people lost in the darkness of past trauma. Through music, they bring awareness to difficult subjects like domestic violence, sexual abuse, PTSD and suicide. It is a loving and empowering message, tempered by the realism that healing is hard work.

“Phage” is the latest single from Clockbutterflies, released worldwide via all major streaming services on March 15, 2023. Minor-key ambient synths open the track before the beat drops on a deep sawtooth bass riding an organic downtempo hip-hop groove. Monarch and guest vocalist AXTXMN step to the mic with a dark-pop meditation on memory, heartache and rising above the pain. In the verse he drops a hard and introspective freestyle rap about conquering pain and realizing potential.
