Preston Defa’s New Indie Americana

preston defa

Preston Defa is an emerging independent singer/songwriter who made his solo professional recording debut in 2021 with the single “Misunderstood”. That track introduced a veteran musician who wrote his first song at the age of 12. Raised on country music, he has a unique indie-Americana sound.

Since his debut, Preston Defa has released six singles and has connected with fans around the world. His songs tell personal anecdotes of life in the heartland. Armed with an acoustic guitar and a drum machine, he combines elements of pop, rock, country and hip-hop into his own distinct vibe.

From the boom-bap beat and wistful torch song vibes of his debut, to the bluesy outlaw-country meets indie-pop of his latest single “Stone Cold Killer”, his sound is his own. The genre-bending Preston Defa has carved a unique niche in the modern musical landscape. Lyrically, the singer offers personal tales of love, friendship and family.

On “Marlboro Man”, Preston Defa looks back fondly at childhood, remembering days of camping and fishing with his father and grandfather. “Beers Gone Wild” is a fun bit of country hip-hop about a perfect summer day with friends in “the land where all are swaying”.  On “Loving Through Doomsday ” and the clever “Ghosted You”, Preston turns his lo-fi twang towards matters of the heart.
