Snake Puppy is the professional name of veteran hip-hop artist and producer, Chris Wilson. The perennial hit-maker first made a name for himself in the 1980’s as one-half of the legendary L.A. Dream Team. He is back in 2023 with a new crew and a new set of future classics.
For his latest project, Wilson has teamed up with fellow LA artists, producer Dave Broussard (aka Digi Dave) and emerging emcee Heartbreak Snow. The trio is on a mission to bring authentic old-school West Coast vibes to the modern hip-hop landscape. Snake Puppy launched the project to showcase the raw talent and fresh perspective of Heartbreak Snow.
The project debuted in March with four brand new collaborative singles, available worldwide via all major streaming services. From the classic P-funk analog synth vibe of the mostly instrumental “They Boogie” to the low-rider groove of “Los Angeles”, Snake Puppy and Digi Dave take us on a laid-back cruise from Compton to Hollywood.
Heartbreak Snow makes a powerful debut with a hard attitude and lyrical flow as she calls out a philandering ex on “Looking Right Back”. Featured rappers KaliKev and Ceh_poke1 also drop some fire over Snake Puppy’s chill boom-bap beat. The producer recruited singer Andrea J-Wilson on “Play with my 808”, a chilled ode to old-school hip-hop and Roland’s iconic TR-808 drum machine, one of the first programmable drum machines and for more than 40 years has helped define the sound of hip-hop, r&b and pop music.
