Civil is the professional name of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Nathan Pollonais. The veteran artist and producer debuted his current project in 2021 with the song “Green Grass”. With that track he introduced an experimental and cerebral indie-rock vibe built on interwoven melodies and a lo-fi aesthetic.
A native of Brooklyn, he now resides in Huntington Beach, California. The songwriter cites the music of indie heroes Bloc Party and the legendary reggae visionary Bob Marley as major inspirations for his sound. He blends those proto-punk and rasta influences with some dreamy West Coast harmonies and a punky East Coast edge.
“Sammy’s Luck” is the latest single from Civil, released worldwide via all major streaming services on March 29, 2023. The track opens with a nice bit of Cure-style analog ambience before the beat drops on an uptempo indie-pop groove. In an infectiously rhythmic lilting melody, the singer delivers a tale of a young man lost in misplaced priorities.
