Farrelly – Somewhere in Uvalde

farrelly

Farrelly is the professional name of independent recording artist Liam Farrelly. A veteran of numerous musical projects over the past two decades, he took the unexpected downtime of COVID lockdowns to begin working on his solo album, due later this year. The Australian singer, songwriter and guitarist is making his international solo recording debut in 2023 with an emotionally charged indie-folk/rock song ripped from today’s headlines.

Citing the inspiration of alternative icons like Nirvana, The Pogues, The Cure, and Nick Cave, Farrelly spins a soulful indie-blend of rock, folk, and punk elements. The singer describes his sound as “a gravelly mix of guitars and hard poetry that is impossible to ignore or forget.” It is an apt description for the singer’s powerful debut single.

“Somewhere in Uvalde, Texas’ ‘ is the brand new single from Farrelly, released worldwide via all major streaming services on March 31, 2023. An acoustic guitar sways to a 6/8 Celtic/Americana waltz as the singer steps to the mic. He offers a heartbreaking account of the recent horrific school shooting in the song’s titular city, as seen through the eyes of a victim’s family dog. As the emotionally devastating track progresses, the mix expands to a cinematic climax.

"The song was inspired by cartoonist Ted Litteford’s incredibly-moving piece of the same name that was published in the New Haven Independent shortly after the school shooting in Uvalde."
