Lavinia is the professional name of composer and multi-instrumentalist producer Lavinia Gerster. The multitalented German musician is making her solo professional recording debut in 2023. However, her new recordings are just the latest chapter in a musical story which began when she was just six years old.
Citing the inspiration of classic prog-rock bands and modern psychedelic acts like Ott, Carbon Based lifeforms and Shpongle, Lavinia creates chilled and melodic organic instrumentals. She plays all of the instruments on her songs, with her handpan in the spotlight. It’s a cool, genre-fluid downtempo vibe.
“Equinox” is the debut single from Lavinia, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 4, 2023. Ambient keys introduce the track before the beat drops on a laid-back syncopated live drum and bass groove. At center stage is the handpan, spinning a mesmerizing percussive melody. Analog synth arpeggios and bluesy guitar licks paint the edges of the mix as a male narrator contemplates the yin & yang of the changing seasons.
