We first heard from Black Masses two years ago upon the release of their self-titled 2021 seven-song EP. That record introduced the talented creative team of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Samuel Mason and drummer Austin Sheese. The Indiana duo introduced their unique, metal-infused alt-rock sound in 2019 with the album Phases.
Black Masses has released seven singles and two follow-up EPs since their debut. They have connected with rock fans around the world with popular tracks like “Creepin” and “Hell is Knocking”. The band cites guitar-fueled bands like Des Rocs, Royal Blood, and The Black Keys as inspiration for their sound.
“So Long, Sailor” is the brand new single from Black Masses, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 21, 2023. Dark minor-key guitars and synths open the track before the beat drops on Austin’s massive arena-worthy downtempo alt-rock groove. A wall of power chords, fuzz tone riffs and ambient keys paint an ominous psychedelic soundscape. On the mic Sam sings of moving on from the betrayal of toxic friends.
