Jake Merritt is an emerging independent recording artist who made his solo debut in 2019 with the album The Roots and The Canopy. That record introduced a talented singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer with a timeless, blues guitar-fueled sound. Originally from Alabama, the multi-talented musician now calls Atlanta, Georgia home.
Not long after releasing his debut album, like the rest of the world, Jake Merritt found himself sequestered. Locked down by COVID quarantines, the guitar slinger took advantage of the unplanned downtime and started recording. His sophomore solo album Old Soul is due to drop on May 2, 2023.
“Don’t Go Too Far” is the first single from Jake Merritt’s forthcoming new album. The song was released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 4, 2023. As the track opens, a trio of guitar, bass and drums lays down a soulful downtempo minor-key groove that brings to mind some of The Black Keys’ mellower stuff. On the mic, the singer offers a friendly word of caution to an estranged acquaintance. Jake’s tremolo guitar sets a dreamy scene throughout the tune, before taking center stage for a soulful slow-hand solo.
