The Links’ New Delta Surf Psychedelia

the links

The Links are an emerging independent rock & roll trio from Lafeyyette, Louisiana. The band is the brainchild of singer, songwriter and guitarist J Marola. He debuted the project in 2015 with the single “When You Really”. That track introduced a genre-bending alt-rock sound with deep 60s vibes.

Since that debut, The Links have released a string of successful singles, EPs and albums. Regular readers of The Static Dive will remember the band’s 2020 swamp rocker “Made for Life“. Joined by a revolving door of talented musicians from his local scene, Marola has created a deep catalog of guitar-fueled surf-rock psychedelia. The band is currently putting the finishing touches on their new LP, Outside.

“Try to Change” is the brand new single from that forthcoming album. The song was released via all major streaming services as a three-song EP with the band’s two previous singles on April 28, 2023. A syncopated surf-rock beat opens the tune. Soon the singer steps to the mic and the band slides in on a Ventures meets Smashing Pumpkins space-rock groove.

“We Got Time” follows with a bluesy dream-pop scene. A jazzy syncopated groove of bass and drum sub-rhythms beats beneath a mix of ethereal guitars and hypnagogic vocals. “Calice” closes the set with some fantastic overdriven Raconteurs-style acid riff-rock.

Check out “Try to Change” below. You can also hear the single on the Deep Indie Dive playlist, or listen to the entire EP on your favorite streaming service.
