Anonymous17 is an emerging independent recording artist making her solo professional recording debut in 2023. A singer since childhood, she first started recording about three years ago. Encouraged by her musician and producer friend Chip, the young artist was soon writing original material.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Anonymous17 has an unorthodox approach to recording. She sings barefoot, and with a handheld microphone instead of a traditional boom mic. Working with Chip and co-producer Nik Bak, the singer recently dropped her debut release.
Hand Held With Rough Edges is the brand new EP from Anonymous17, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 28, 2023. The six-song collection is a fun and funky genre-bending mix of pop, r&b, and EDM vibes. It is also an excellent showcase for the talented newcomer’s vocal skills.
From the self-affirming alien conspiracy-theory peace and love manifesto of the opening track “Love Light Peace Harmony”, to the 70’s disco and 80’s pop jam “Feel The Power”, Anonymous17 and team create an exciting and eclectic sound on Hand Held With Rough Edges. They paint a deep soundscape with lush multipart vocal harmonies, funk grooves, and pop hooks.
Throughout the EP, the production team freely mixes genres and decades. “Love Work Dance” sounds like a really cool house remix of a classic disco hit. “Help” is a big and synthy psychedelic dream. The singer offers an ethereal meditation on the song’s title while deep layers of vocal harmonies spin on the periphery. The track kicks into a nice funk jam on the bridge before floating away on a cloud of atmospheric vocals.
“Together Forever” drops some big 80’s vibes on a percussive alt-pop funk featuring some nice Bootsy-style bass licks and some smooth saxophone. Anonymous17 is soulful and sultry as she lays some Chicago blues on the r&b ballad “I Love U”. “Feel The Power” closes the set on the dancefloor.
