Actor, playwright, singer and songwriter, ArtistNation (aka Mahoghany) is a multi-talented creative force from Washington, DC. Regular readers of The Static Dive know her from a string of recent singles. This year the multifaceted creator is directing her energies to music.
Since dropping her debut single “Honor” in December, the prolific songwriter has released a total of eight singles. Her sound is a fluid mix of R&B, pop, soul and hip-hop. Although Mahoghany is just one woman, her music is a collaborative project. On each of her songs she incorporates the talents of other creatives from the DMV and beyond. Her songs promote messages of self-help, community, and love.
“Best Version of Me” is a recent single from ArtistNation, released worldwide via all major streaming services on March 24, 2023. A duo of jazz guitar and electric piano opens the track. An analog synth adds some flavor as the beat drops on mid-tempo hip-hop groove. On the mic, a female vocalist offers her soulful and funky self-affirming testimony as dreamy vocal harmonies color the edges of the mix.
