Paradush is the poetic professional name of a Ukrainian musical duo with South American vibes. Singer Marina Chabanova and drummer/producer Anatoly Shmargun have been playing together since 2001. Their name is the combination of two words meaning “pair of souls” in Russian and Ukrainian.
For two decades, the pair have published live and studio performance videos via their popular YouTube channel and the released numerous recordings in Ukraine and Russia. In recent years they have dropped a string of releases via streaming services, including two EPs of bossa nova vibes and nu-jazz grooves. Their sound is a seamless mix of classic Latin jazz and modern production technique.
“No Meio Do Mundo” (In the Middle of the World) is a recent single and video from Paradush, available worldwide via all major streaming services. Composed by Marcus Ribeva with lyrics by Marcus Ribeva & Adriana Raquel, the song is a classic love lament with cool bossa nova and samba vibes. The track was recorded by producer Vlad Ponomarenko at Kaska Records in Kiev, Ukraine.
Mandolin, guitar, accordion, and cello all take turns painting the edges of the mix as an acoustic jazz rhythm section offers its smooth syncopation. On the mic, Marina sings in Portuguese and recalls the great Astrud Gilberto with her soft, sultry, and soulful tones. The beautifully shot “No Meio Do Mundo” video, directed by Nikita Kazmiruk, showcases the idyllic streets of Kiev, before Vladimir Putin’s horrific war.
