hicdotnunc is the professional name of emerging independent electronic music producer, Remus Placinta. Although he began composing about eight years ago, 2023 marks the debut of this new solo project. The eclectic and experimental musician specializes in synth-driven cinematic instrumental pieces.
Although his music is entirely electronic, hicdotnunc’s writing process is a much more analog affair. He composes his music on a standard piano, with pen and paper in hand. Once he has all of the musical complexities sorted out, he orchestrates everything with synthesizers. After years of attempting to break into the video game music industry, Remus decided to take matters into his own hands and compose an entire soundtrack for a fictional game.
Fictional Videogame OST is the debut album from hicdotnunc, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 8, 2023. The 12-song collection is the first in a planned series of 12 individual fictional video game soundtracks. Citing the influence of classical composers like Erik Satie and EDM producer Mark Farina, the eclectic musician marries elements of classical, lo-fi, pop, and electronic into a sound that is distinctly his own.
From the hypnotic vibes and melodic experimentation of “to find solace in solitude” to the aptly titled playground psychedelia of “mystical treehouse”, hicdotnunc spins a rich and emotionally complex soundscape. Tracks like “continuum” and “playing the long game” set moody dark-pop scenes. Elsewhere, short and dreamy tunes like “lunar intersection” and “courtesy of cute” paint the edges with trippy interludes.
Composed with equal parts musical sophistication and creative exploration, hicdotnunc has created a mesmerizing imaginary soundtrack. The prolific producer is already hard at work composing the next 11 albums. Volumes #2 and #3 are already available via Bandcamp.
