Fool Of Glass – The Debut Release from Amsterdam Olympic Records

fool of glass

Fool of Glass is a new collaborative music project from the folks at Amsterdam Olympic Records. The new musical project from the Holland-based company is the brainchild of songwriter and producer Michiel Mulder. The team recently dropped their debut single.

The veteran musician and composer assembled an international roster of world-class musicians to contribute to Fool of Glass. Amsterdam Olympic Records is a multimedia production company. They create full video and audio productions in support of their releases.

“Fool of Glass” is the project’s debut self-titled track, released worldwide via all major streaming services on May 19, 2023. The track opens as a melancholy piano ballad. Soon an ensemble of guitar, bass, and cello enter the mix. They ride a chilled downtempo hip-hop groove as vocalist Liliia Kysil delivers a sorrowful tale of uncertainty and self doubt. It is a dreamy and beautifully haunted sound.

Watch the animated “Fool of Glass” video below. You can also hear the song on the Deep Indie Dive playlist, or listen on your favorite streaming service. 8 Questions with Michiel Mulder about Fool of Glass

Where are you from?

Amsterdam in Holland.

How long have you been making music?

I have been making music for more than 20 years, for example in the past I was a background piano player in luxury restaurants and performing songs in theaters in holland.

Who are the musicians involved in your project?

Liliia Kysil sings the song with her beautiful voice, by which one can dream away, but she has some sense of urgency in her voice as well, according to me. She’s from Ukraine. John Zeff from Italy is playing the piano and the cello is played by Polina Faustova, she’s from Ukraine too. I’m glad we still have some Dutch guys in our Amsterdam production team with Renzo Kloosterman (Mixing Engineer & Beatmaker) and Jaap Kroezen (Mastering Engineer), and we have Cis Kroezen playing the guitar. They all have their one acts as well, Renzo with his DJ duo ‘Detone’, Jaap with his reggae band ‘The Jaike’ and Cis played in Holland on the big festivals with his band named ‘Trauner’ under contract at Sony Music. We’re all united now in this production, we’re proud of all that!

Who are your biggest musical influences?

For this song it is definitely Billie Eilish, Renzo as a beat-maker is inspired by Hip-Hop and the ‘urban sound’.

What is your greatest non-musical influence?

Nice question, for a couple of years I quit music being involved in politics. This song is rather personal, but there are some projects ahead which are more influenced by the things we see in society.

What inspired you to create this project?
I heard the voice of Liliia and had this Billie Eilish feeling. I had some personal notes which are difficult to find words for; I really needed these lyrics and the vibe to express myself by that.

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

There will be some more productions published with Liliia which are now on their way, and some other ballads: a more traditional one inspired by the nasty things going on in the world and some rock-power ballads. So, somewhat different, but they are ballads as well.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

We made this teaser to give some visual meaning for the lyrics and we’re already in a high brow Spanish playlist (I’ll put a picture of that as an attachment). In the stats I can see that a lot of people listen to the song because the Spotify algorithm put it to them, I’m proud of that.
