Mute is the professional name of veteran songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer, Ross Martin. He worked for years as a session musician, and was a founding member of the band Absent Elk. Now, in 2023, the multifaceted artist is making his solo debut.
For a long time, Ross Martin felt that his dissatisfaction with his own voice was a roadblock to a solo career. However, a recent revelation in his creative process opened doors that were previously closed to the artist. He realized that he could compose, perform, and record his songs in their entirety on his own, and then mute his original vocals and replace them with tracks from professional singers around the world.
“Like I’m a Billionaire” is the debut single from Mute, released worldwide via all major streaming services on May 19, 2023. A melodic piano arpeggio progression opens this beautiful adult contemporary tune. A jazzy bass and drum combo enters the mix, and lush strings create a cinematic vibe. On the mic, a male vocalist delivers an inspirational ballad about the value of love and humanity over empty monetary and material rewards.
