Form And Fate’s Dreamy Post-Rock Return

form and fate

Form and Fate are a veteran independent band making their return in 2023 after a twelve-year hiatus. The San Francisco Bay area group first got together in 1998. They released a series of groundbreaking experimental instrumental post-rock releases throughout the early and mid 2000s.

During their tenure the band toured with similarly visionary acts like Caspian, Tristeza, Signal Hill, and El Ten Eleven. Form and Fate took a break to focus on career and family after the release of their 2011 LP Sol Invictus. Now, original members Matt Deems, Jesse Attix, Russ Adams, and Adam Myatt have teamed up with songwriter Kevin McAuliffe, cellist Shana Kirsch Soltani and vocalist Orion Lake to release their first new music of the decade.

Your Heartbeat is a Harmony is the brand new EP from Form and Fate, released worldwide via all major streaming services on June 8, 2023. With the return, the band’s sound has evolved. On the 3-song set they pair their signature hypnagogic musical explorations with the dreamy vocal stylings of New Jersey-native Christina Hernandez (aka orion lake).

From the acoustic and synth ambience of the title track, to the minor-key space dream of “Eternal Love”, Form and Fate blend organic psychedelia with lake’s gorgeous dream-pop meditations. Strings, keys, and layers of ethereal guitars and vocal harmonies paint lush soundscapes as the singer delivers stream-of-consciousness poetry on mysticism and love.

Check out Your Heartbeat is a Harmony below. You can also hear the song “Well Okay” on the Deep Indie Chill playlist, or listen on your favorite streaming service. Form and Fate are currently in production on a new full-length album, due later this year. Get on their socials and get in the loop.
