Clerkenwell & Grafezzy’s New Hip-hop Manifesto

clerkenwell

Clerkenwell is the professional name of emerging independent recording artist and producer, Frederik Goossens. Born in Belgium and based in Hong Kong, the international musician is a veteran of numerous musical projects. He made his solo professional recording debut as Clerkenwell in 2022.

He is an eclectic artist who is deeply devoted to his craft, whether creating orchestral instrumental pieces or groundbreaking hip-hop. Although he cites a broad spectrum of influences from Jimi Hendrix to Euromi Euhara, he is a fiercely original artist who refuses to record cover songs and does not use any external samples in his music. Frederik’s strong artistic convictions and singular vision have led to creative conflicts in previous projects. As Clerkenwell he is able to bring his genre-bending creations to life, uncompromised.

“Generation Chasm” is the brand new single from Clerkenwell, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 24, 2023. The song is a collaboration with Bahama-based emcee Grafezzy. As the track opens, a Jimi Hendrix-style acid rock guitar loop rides an experimental jazz-infused breakbeat groove. On the mic, the rapper drops a freestyle cultural manifesto as he rails against the evolution or devolution of society, depending upon one’s point of view. Everything from veganism to crypto are fair game in his scathing societal takedown.
