aylum’s Dreamy Celestial Debut

aylum

aylum is an emerging independent music producer making their solo professional recording debut in 2023. However, the elusive artist’s musical journey began years earlier. They spent over a decade perfecting their sound before sharing it with the world.

The San Francisco based musician has crafted a distinctive niche in the atmospheric downtempo electronic music world, and listeners are already responding. In just a few weeks since dropping their debut, aylum has already clocked nearly 70K streams on Spotify, and that number continues to rise. For inspiration, they cite cutting-edge post-rock, trip-hop, and deep house artists like Sigur Rós, Lane 8, Above & Beyond, and Porter Robinson

us is the debut EP from aylum, released worldwide via all major streaming services on June 26, 2023. The three-song collection takes listeners on a chilled ride beyond the stratosphere. Along the way we meet celestial bodies and progressive house bangers.

The record opens on the ambient tones and sparse piano chords of “worlds”. On the mic, guest vocalist KEZVIA narrates a dreamy tale of hypnagogic flight through the clouds. A hypnotic deep house beat guides her as she floats into the unknown.

“stars” continues the adventure with its ethereal mix of dream-pop vibes and a driving four on the floor beat.  Percussive electronic arpeggios paint the periphery as KEZVIA delivers her ethereal report from the stars, The EP closes on “moons” and uptempo minor-key instrumental jam featuring syncopated sub-rhythms and intricate interwoven melodies.

"Melody is always in the front of my mind while writing. The first song is nostalgic and emotional. The second is bright and melodic. The third is dark but uplifting."
