Portrait of a Nightmare is a hard-rocking independent band who trace their roots back to 2009. That’s when Pascal Simpkins (vocals) and Tass Szanto (guitar) first started writing songs together. Over the years the Orange County, California rockers have endured numerous personnel changes, but that core songwriting duo has always remained.
Known for their captivating live show, the group performs with a full ensemble of musicians. Their sound is a genre-bending hard rock mix of heavy metal power with an industrial electronic edge. Last year, Portrait of a Nightmare (PoaN) returned to the international stage, reinvigorated after a long hiatus.
Reach Inside is the debut EP from Portrait of a Nightmare, available worldwide via all major streaming services. The three-song collection reintroduced these SoCal rockers to the world with in-your-face metal riffs, thought-provoking lyrics, and danceable dose of electronica. Since its release the record has clocked 150K streams and connected with hard rock fans worldwide.
“Dirtier You Dirtier Me” opens the record with a groove-metal funk verse before dropping a classic Sunset Strip chorus. The stylistic experimentation continues with the thrash metal riffing and introspective wordplay of “Despised”. In the bridge the song takes a cool synth-fueled prog-rock interlude. The title track closes the set with a cool mix of NiN-inspired industrial vibes and big melodic metal power.
“Overdive” is the brand new single from PoaN, released worldwide via all major streaming services on July 10, 2023. This is the first single from the band’s forthcoming debut LP, I Still Remain. The track is a high-octane mix of heavy metal riffs, screamo angst, and electronic energy. Pascal delivers an intense performance. He sings of taking accountability and overcoming depression while a wall of power chords rides and infectious and danceable groove.
