deadwater is an emerging independent alternative rock band making their professional recording debut in 2023. The group is the brainchild of multi-talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Alex O. Hailing from the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC, the band already has a series of new releases scheduled for the coming months.
The DMV group cites a wide range of hard rock, alternative, and classic rock artists as inspiration for their heavy, guitar-driven vibe. They point to everyone from legendary Seattle rock heroes Alice in Chains to art-rock pioneers Pink Floyd as significant contributors to the deadwater sound. The eclectic rockers have many of those influences on displayon their debut track, which just dropped everywhere this week.
“Purple Crosses” is the brand new single from deadwater, released worldwide via all major streaming services on July 20, 2023. A haunting dissonant guitar tone introduces the dark rocker. Alex O steps to the mic as overdriven power chords introduce a slow, low and heavy grunge groove. The singer offers an esoteric and creepy tale, populated by snake charmers and dark religious imagery. In the chorus the track takes on a psychedelic rock vibe reminiscent of the early work of iconic spaceman David Bowie.
