Steve Hillier is a veteran keyboard player, vocalist and songwriter who made his solo recording debut in 2018 after working for over thirty years as a sideman for notable gospel/soul artists like Bobby Stringer and Betty Padgett. The Connecticut native’s musical journey began years earlier when he started playing piano and composing music as a teenager.
Now based in Florida, the genre-bending artist’s sound is a mellow melodic vibe built on elements of blues, jazz, pop, and rock & roll. He cites a broad range of artists as inspirations, from blues legend Albert King, to jazz icon John Coltrane, and prog-rock pioneers Yes.
“Beauty Is” is the brand new single from Steve Hillier, released worldwide via all major streaming services on July 22, 2023. The track is the first single from his forthcoming EP Moving Star. Joining Steve on the track are well-known French session musicians Mike Noegraf on guitars and backing vocals, and Zamm Kenoby on drums.
The song opens on a mellow piano, acoustic guitar, and pedal steel intro. Soon the beat drops on a mellow folk-infused prog-rock groove. Ambient keys paint the edges of the mix as the singer delivers a heartfelt ode to the beauty of simple human connection.
