McKay is an emerging alternative folk/rock band who made their professional recording debut in 2022 with the five-song EP Day Moon. That record introduced Nashville natives Hudson Haining, James Eichman, Peter Dark, and South Carolina native bassist Zach Shirley. Their sound pairs a modern indie aesthetic with classic Americana storytelling vibes.
Their EP was a stripped-down acoustic affair. Since its release the band has released two new studio recordings of tracks from that record, in preparation for their forthcoming debut LP. Although the band is new, its members are veterans of numerous iconic Nashville stages like Sevier Park Fest, Light the Nations, Acme Feed & Seed, The 5 Spot, The Basement, The East Room, and many more.
“Bad Liar” is the brand new single from McKay, released worldwide via all major streaming services on August 1, 2023. A mix of guitars and banjo opens the track as the singer steps to the mic. He delivers a melancholy indie-folk allegory about hopes, dreams, and family. As the song progresses, a full Nashville ensemble including bass, drums, lap steel enter the mix and build the track to an emotional alt-country anthem.
