Monochrome Midnight Traveller is a brand new multimedia project making their debut in 2023. The otherwise anonymous debut has dropped a series of experimental videos on their YouTube channel over the past two months. They released their first official wide-distribution single last week.
Although the group was formed in Shanghai, China, the two members of Monochrome Midnight Traveller have close ties to both the US and UK music scenes. The sights and sounds they create are a unique mix of East and West styles. They paint dreamy soundscapes and visual scenes inspired by the city life that surrounds them, colored by elements of ambient, breakbeat, hiphop, and trip-hop.
“Reality” is the debut single from Monochrome Midnight Traveller, released worldwide via all major streaming services on August 13, 2023. The track opens on a hypnotic analog synth arpeggio riff as a female vocalist steps to the mic. A pulsing dubstep-infused bass rides a syncopated kick drum rhythm, and ambient synths expand the horizon, as the singer delivers a dreamy contemplation on the tenuous nature of existence.
