Nagavalli’s Genre-Bending New Numinosum

nagavalli

Nagavalli Medicharla is a veteran Indian-American musician with genre-bending multicultural sound. She made her international solo recording debut in 2012 with the album Eastern Soul. That record introduced a groundbreaking artist whose sound is an innovative mix of pop, rock, trance with East Indian overtones.

Born and raised in Mumbai, India, Nagavalli eventually relocated to the United States and now calls Austin, Texas home.  Over the years she has worked with local artists from the city’s legendary music scene to craft her unique Indo-fusion style. Earlier this year she released the album Numinosum, described as a microcosm of her experiences between East and West, both musically and culturally. She debuted the album with a sold-out show at Austin’s iconic Stateside Paramount theater, and the city officially designated the album’s release date as “Nagavalli Day”.

“Nagavalli Medicharla brings the rich, soulful music of her homeland and upbringing in Mumbai, India, blending pop, rock, trance with East Indian overtones... The City of Austin recognizes Nagavalli’s work and contribution to music and to the Austin music community.”
Excerpt from the City of Austin proclamation of “Nagavalli Day” on February 11th, 2023

“I See You” is the current single from the new album Numinosum, available worldwide via all major streaming services. A guitar and sitar duo introduces the track with a bluesy mix of East and West. Soon, bass and tabla join the ensemble and further expand the cross-cultural soundscape. The singer steps to the mic with a message of love, inclusion, and validation. She sings, “I see you, I hear you, I know you, all that you’ve gone through” as the band lays down a dreamy and organic international groove.
