We last heard from Paul Maged way back in 2020 upon the release of his full-length album “Culture War”. That record introduced The Static Dive readers to a multifaceted creator. He is an accomplished actor, comedian, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist producer with a taste for guitar-driven, arena-worthy rock & roll.
A native of Boston and now based in NYC, Paul Maged dropped his debut solo album In My Time, in 2006. Since then, the prolific rocker has produced six albums and a string of singles. In that time, his music has won a number of high-profile placements in television and film. His song “Fight to the Death ” appeared in UFC’s Fight Pass, and MTV featured his track “Falling Down” in their show Think Again Sex Myths Revealed.
“Crossroads” is the brand new EP from Paul Maged, released worldwide via all major streaming services on August 19, 2023. The record is an alternative rock examination of transitory times. Armed with a powerhouse rhythm section, a wall of guitars, and some world-class riffing, the singer looks hard at the world around and within him.
The record opens with the punk-rock power chords of “Martyr War ”. Soon the band joins in and transforms the tune into an epic art-rock tale of a corrupt leader, featuring a shredding lead guitar. The fist-pumping anthem “Burn it to the Ground” continues the cinematic rock vibes with a hippie call-to-action as Paul Maged chants, “Burn the hate to the ground.”
The melancholy piano ballad “A Sudden Contrast” follows. On that song, and on the subsequent “Under My Tree”, the singer addresses more personal matters, while still touching on global issues. However, Paul Maged turns his focus deeply inward on the introspective acoustic album closer “Crossroads”. The title track is a dark examination of depression and suicidal thoughts.
