ghost singers is a collaborative music project featuring artists from around the world. The group is the brainchild of Scottish singer/songwriter Brian O’Neill. They dropped their debut acoustic six-song EP Dark Tales from the Riverside in 2020.
Following a brief hiatus, ghost singers returned in 2023 with a pair of new singles. Their sound is a unique mix of traditional folk and classic pop. On the new song, O’Neill introduces new layers of style and sophistication to the band’s sound.
“Remember When I” is the brand new single from ghost singers, released worldwide via all major streaming services on September 15, 2023. The track opens on an acoustic guitar picking a melancholy minor-key chord progression as ambient synths and strings paint the periphery. Vocalist Beloved Abe steps to the mic and delivers a sultry heartbreaker. Her smoky vocals, together with a jazzy descending bassline, create a haunting vibe that lands somewhere between chamber pop and trip-hop.

7 Questions with Brian O'Neill of ghost singers

Where are you from?
I (Brian O’neill) am from Glasgow, Scotland. But the artists performing for the band are from all over the world. None of us have ever met.
Who are the musicians involved in your project?
We have a few mysterious artists who wish to remain anonymous. But the artists at front and center of this project are two folk artists, Beloved Abe from Australia and Christy Harrington from Colorado.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
Musical influences are endless but Nick Drake, John Martyn, Bert Jansch and most of the 60’s folk scene are up there.
What is your greatest non-musical influence?
Mental illness, addiction, faith, and the magic that sits behind everyday life.
What inspired you to create this project?
The project happened by chance. Sitting in bed watching YouTube, I thought maybe some of the artists I was watching would cover my songs if I would only ask. Lo and behold, some did.
What are your plans for the future (musically)?
Musically I would like to expand the ghost singers universe. I write new songs everyday and am always on the lookout for new talent.
Is there anything else you would like to say?
Having survived being hit by a train and suffering from schizophrenia (ongoing struggle), I am lucky to be here and creating music that I love, with talented artists who I love.
