Electric Powered Soul is the professional name of the musical duo comprised of legendary producer/songwriter/musician V. Jeffrey Smith and drummer/programmer Howard Alper. The two NYC musicians launched their original collaborative project in 2018, after working together on a number of high-profile projects over the last two decades. They’re back in 2023 with a brand new album.
V. Jeffrey Smith first made a name for himself as a member of the band, The Family Stand. He also worked as a producer and songwriter for legends like Whitney Houston, Daryl Hall, Paula Abdul, Kashif, and Des’ree. He met Howard Alper when the two worked together on Living Colour vocalist Corey Glover’s solo album “Hymns.” They soon realized a shared musical vision built on elements of soul, rock, jazz and electronic. Electric Powered Soul was born.
“This Windy Road ” is the current single from Electric Powered Soul brand new album Elephant in the Room, released worldwide via all major streaming services on November 17, 2023. Poet Brad Walrond opens the track with a dramatic oration, as ambient synths and percussion paint a psychedelic scene. Soon the beat drops on a hard organic funk groove as a saxophone and bass guitar trade virtuosic free jazz solos.
