Keith A. Getchell – Lost & Found In Portland

keith a. getchell

Portland is at the heart of Keith A. Getchell’s story, and the setting for his new single. The Oregon native and former Navy seaman penned the tune over twenty years ago. It was originally inspired by the writer’s daily commute across the Willamette River. Over the years, the song became a tale of a young man trying to find his way in a world and a culture which did not welcome him.

“Send Your River REDUX2” is the new single from Keith Getchell, available worldwide via all major streaming services. The song was originally released in 2018 as “The Portland Three-Step”. That recording of the tune featured a female vocalist backed by a guitar-led jazz trio. Later renamed “Send Your River”, the song took on an R&B vibe for a 2021 retake.

In 2023 Keith A. Getchell took the tune back to Sundown Sessions Studio to put the finishing touches on this final version. A solo jazz guitar opens the track as a female vocalist steps to the mic. The ensemble expands to include keys, strings, woodwinds, bass, and drums. The singer offers the timeless tale of a wandering soul lost in an unforgiving world, who eventually finds salvation in love.

It started as a song about Portland, but it became a song about me. It's about a lonely gay kid in 1979 trying to escape his religion, finding comfort in booze and sex in the Navy.
