“Look At You” is the brand new single from Almo, released worldwide via all major streaming services on February 23, 2024. The track opens on a subdued dark electro-pop vibe. Ambient synths set the scene and percussive arpeggios paint the periphery as the singer steps to the mic. He offers a poetic dark-pop torch song as the beat drops on a chilled downtempo groove.

7 Questions with Almo

Where are you from?

I’m based in Dubai, UAE

How long have you been making music?

I’ve been involved with music ever since I was a little kid. I started as a vocalist during high-school and then worked with multiple heavy metal / rock bands over the next 7-9 years as a vocalist. During that journey I learned how to play multiple instruments (though I’m no virtuoso!) including the guitar, piano, bass, drums. I’ve worked on several original compositions, with the bands and solo, but never released any as it was more of a hobby. Around 2 years ago, I started experimenting with Electronic music and I’m now working on releasing my first album.

Who are the musicians involved in your project

I’m alone in this project, all compositions, songwriting, vocals, mastering, mixing is done by myself.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

It would be hard to say who my biggest musical influences are because my musical journey has been quite expansive but I would say the genres that influence me the most would be Classical (particularly Bach & Chopin), Brit heavy metal, and House. More relevant to this Single and the Album that’s in the works, I would say artists such as Rufus, Bob Moses, Lane8, Sultan + Shepard have been big influences.

What is your greatest non-musical influence?

I would definitely say books and movies. I have always enjoyed reading classics and philosophy – some of my favorite ones would be Animal Farm, Beyond Good & Evil, The Age of Reason. In terms of movies, I’m more old-school so some of my favorite movies would be 12 Angry Men, Seven Samurai, Wild Strawberries, Brazil. It’s definitely a huge list of books and movies!

What inspired you to create this project?

Music has always been my safe place, ever since I was a little kid. While I haven’t done it professionally (this is my first attempt!), it has been the only constant through all the ups & downs in my life. My inspiration comes from my connection with music and if my music can help anyone have a good time, find some inspiration, relate to the emotions, say the unspoken words, that would give me the greatest joy!

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

My initial plan is to finish the album, release it. I think I would want to continue experimenting with different sounds, instruments, while staying true to the core of my music – which is expressing myself.
