Brad Walrond – Every Where Alien

brad walrond

Brad Walrond is an accomplished poet, author, and spoken word artist. Well known in New York City’s legendary poetry scene, he was one of the foremost talents in that city’s Black Arts Movement in the 1990s. He describes his work as an examination of virtual reality, identity formation, and human consciousness at the intersection of race, gender, sex, and desire.

In 2024, Brad Walrond is going multimedia. This summer he will release his debut album Alien Day. Produced by Howard Alper (Electric Powered Soul, GOCCO, Nightcaller) for Accidental Beauty Records, the LP promises to pair Brad’s poetry and prose with a feast of hip-hop beats, from boom bap to glitch. This month the team dropped their debut single. The album is a companion piece to Walrond’s forthcoming book Every Where Alien, which is also the title of his debut single.

“Every Where Alien” is the brand new single from Brad Walrond, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 19, 2024. As the track opens, a funky bass and guitar riff lands on a mid-tempo old-school hip-hop breakbeat. The poet steps to the mic, and for the next three minutes and thirty seconds, he delivers a spoken-word soliloquy about the aesthetics of black love, black epistemologies, and the universality of existence. It’s a cool and timeless jazz-infused sound that brings to mind Gil Scott Heron, but with a metaphysical lean.

"Consciousness is God's multiple personality disorder."
