Heidi Elgaard Drops New Cinematic Pop Single After 20-Year Delay

heidi elgaard

Heidi Elgaard is a veteran independent recording artist who made her professional debut in 1996 with the album The Hazy Blue Project. The record helped make a name for the San Francisco singer-songwriter in her hometown’s legendary music scene. However, not long after its release, Heidi put her solo music career on hold for more than twenty years to focus on raising her family.

Prior to embarking on her self-directed hiatus, Heidi Elgaard began work on her sophomore LP with acclaimed producer Ed Goldfarb (Pokemon Series, Apocalypse Now Redux). They joined guitarist Stan Cotey in the private home recording studio of Digidesign (ProTools) founder Peter Gotcher (not present for the sessions) to record a handful of tracks. The songs then sat dormant on a computer hard drive for two decades, until now.

“Fly Away Now” is the new single from Heidi Elgaard, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 26, 2024. The track is the latest to be reissued from the singer’s lost-and-found late 90’s recording sessions. Piano arpeggios and syncopated percussion introduce the track as Heidi steps to the mic. Composed and produced with the same genre-bending experimental spirit of art-pop artists like Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel, the song pairs Heidi’s escape fantasy narrative with a jazzy instrumentation, cinematic production, and a healthy dose of prog-rock flair.

Check out “Fly Away Now” below. You can also hear the song on the Deep Dive : Pop & Rock playlist, or listen on your favorite streaming service. Goldfarb and Elgaard are heading back to the studio in May, so look for new music soon. Follow the links below to connect with the artist.
