Hari Upfront Drops New LP – Purgatory

hari upfront

We first heard from Hari Upfront a couple years ago, upon the release of his album Product of a Shy Extrovert. That record introduced The Static Dive readers to a multitalented, genre-bending singer-songwriter from Texas. His music ranges in style and content from hard hip-hop to pop, nerdcore, and R&B.

The prolific recording artist has released a remarkable volume of work since his 2018 debut album Transition. Hari Upfront’s catalog includes five full-length albums as well as nearly three dozen singles and EPs. In April he delivered his first new LP since last year’s Trapdoor Deluxe.

Purgatory is the brand new album from Hari Upfront, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 26, 2024. The eleven-song set is a showcase for the talented young Texan’s varied skills. He shows his versatility throughout, from the chilled soul vibes and classic boom-bap groove of “Too Many Faces” to the uplifting hip-hop summer anthem “My Best Life”.

A classical string quartet introduces “Good Day” before the track lands on a laid back R&B slow jam. Hari Upfront pulls off similar genre mash-ups on tracks like metal/emo/rap “Nothing’s Going Right” to multipart harmonies of the breakup ballad “Ghost Me”. Lyrically, the first half of the record explores Hari’s autobiographical tales of heartache and hardship.

Then the mood shifts with the infectious pop hook and positive outlook of “Time Will Tell”. Hari Upfront keeps the vibes positive on “We Gon Fly”. The uplifting hip-hop jam screams of sunshine, block parties, and good times.
