Shy-Anne Hovorka is an award-winning recording artist who made her solo debut in 2007 with the album Black Thunderbird. That record introduced a talented Canadian singer-songwriter with a passion for sharing the stories and culture of the Canada’s indigenous people. Her sound is rooted in thousands of years of tradition.

Since her debut, Shy-Anne Hovorka has released five full-length albums and a string of popular singles. Her music has been played on radio stations across Canada and around the world.  From her 2010 album Pseudo, the song “Can’t Change the World” appeared in the Blackstone TV series, in the opening ceremonies of the 2010 World Interfaith G-8 Summit, and the 2010 Indigenous Festival.

“Gookum’s Song” is the new single from Shy-Anne Hovorka, released worldwide via all major streaming services on May 6, 2024. An acoustic guitar introduces the song, playing the tune’s central melody amidst an ethereal scene. A traditional drum beats out a minimalist rhythm as the singer steps to the mic. Singing in Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe Language), she sings of the missing and murdered indigenous women and children of Canada.
