Dirrk’s Eclectic New Metal-Fueled Vibe

Dirrk

Dirrk is a veteran singer, songwriter, and recording artist who launched a brand new solo project in 2023. His debut EP Fraud introduced a multi-talented, genre-smashing musician with an insatiable appetite for creation. Although originally from Detroit, he is now based in Seattle, Washington.

Since his debut, the prolific producer has released two EPs and a string of singles. To say his sound is diverse would be an understatement. He has dropped pop punk, flamenco, and country songs. However, heavy metal is home.

Some Kind of Error is a recent EP from Dirrk, available worldwide via all major streaming services. The six-song set is a showcase for the eclectic composer’s unique blend of genres. It is a sound rooted in metal, but informed a strong pop sensibility and art-rock virtuosity.

The record opens with the death metal punch and melodic emo vibes of “The Legacy We Leave”, a rollercoaster ride of speed metal riffs and quiet acoustic interludes. “Flow Into Static” goes deeper and darker into that sound, with a relentless machine-gun rhythm and guttural vocal assault. “Moon” is a cool instrumental interlude which follows an electric guitar as it floats peacefully through the stratosphere, with a temporary pitstop for a bit of double-kick-drum fueled thrashing.

Dirrk brings some friends to the party for the second half of the EP. “Paracausality” is an ensemble deathcore rocker featuring Devin Dennis, KOBA, and Michigan’s Bog Wraith.  “Ayanami” is a radio-ready melodic metal anthem featuring N.A.M. And vocalist Christina Rotondo closes out the set with “Letting Go”, a cinematic ballad that seamlessly blends the many currents of modern rock & metal which are woven throughout this EP.
