Hubbell Benson is an emerging independent band from Tranton, New Jersey. The group was formed by the sibling songwriting and production duo Charlie and Sam Guarino. The talented brothers share every aspect of music making, from composing and tracking to mixing and mastering.
They dropped their debut single in 2022 and followed with two more last year. Joined by drummer Joe Dilapo, the Guarino brothers’ sound is a fluid mix of psychedelic 60s vibes, jazz-infused 80s alt-pop, and a modern production aesthetic. Last month they released their debut EP.
Phantom Frequencies is the brand new record from Hubbell Benson, released worldwide via all major streaming services on July 26, 2024. From the Joe Jackson inspired hooks and trippy psychedelia of “(Come On) Elephant Graveyard”, to the dreaming and experimental 6/8 mediation “Need Someone”, the six-song set is a showcase for the keen pop sensibilities and virtuosic instrumentalism of these talented brothers.
On “Except for Him”, Hubbell Benson summons the infectiously catchy hooks, radio-ready pop tenor, and lyrical craftiness of the great Elvis Costello. They take a less angsty stance with the Style Council inspired major seventh chords and airy vibes of “Gimme all You Got”. Throughout the record, the Guarino brothers push the boundaries of their retro groove with cutting-edge studio experimentation.
